AD4A Canine Assessors & Trainers

Assistance Dogs For All K-9 Assessors and Service Dog Trainers are certified by the parent organization, the International Society for Canine Trainers & Assessors (ISCTA).

Assistance Dogs For All K-9 Assessors and Trainers are trained to the highest standards in assessing the broad spectrum of canine temperaments, behaviors, and breed characteristics, and by working closely with a referring mental health professional, are adept at identifying, training, and integrating the ideal Assistance Dog based on:

  • An individual's needs, requirements, lifestyle, and preferences and identifying the best breeds to meet those needs
  • In close cooperation with the client's mental health professional, assessing the client's needs and capabilities and selecting the best temperament to meet those needs -- including allowing a dog to be reasonably protective of its handler.
  • A given dog's behavior after being exposed to a variety of different physical, situational, and stress-inducing stimuli.
  • Level of responsibility and concern for public safety as evidenced by the owner
  • The approach an individual dog requires to cultivate its full potential as an Assistance Dog. For example, some dogs are bold and invincible while others are highly sensitive and delicate in nature; if a trainer treats the former using methods for the latter, they will not be respected by the dog; if a trainer treats the latter using methods appropriate to the former, they will reduce the dog to a quivering heap of frozen immobility.
